WHEREAS, the Arlington County Department of Human Services and other local agencies celebrate the Week of the Young Child during the week of April 12 through 18, 2015; and
WHEREAS, by recognizing the need for quality child care for all young children and families within our community, the County hopes to raise the community’s awareness of the high quality, early childhood programs in Arlington; and
WHEREAS, the future of our County depends on the quality of the early learning experiences provided to young children today, as these early years of life lay a foundation for a child’s future success in school and in life; and
WHEREAS, high-quality early childhood services represent a worthy commitment to our children’s future; and
WHEREAS, all children and their families must have access to high quality, early learning opportunities, including Pre-K, Head Start, Early Head Start and child care; and
WHEREAS, school readiness involves more than just children., as school readiness, in the broadest sense, is about children, families, early environments, schools, and communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary Hughes Hynes, Chair of the Arlington County Board, do hereby proclaim April 12 through April 18, 2015, as WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD in Arlington County, and urge all residents to recognize the valuable contributions of early childhood educators and administrator and to actively support the need for community involvement in providing high quality, early childhood development opportunities for all our children.
