WHEREAS, Vera Punke was born on August 29, 1915, and will soon celebrate her 100th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Punke has been a highly successful businesswoman, community organizer, co-founder of the Woman’s Youth League of Rhode Island, Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Punke continues to make contributions to her community by volunteering to teach bridge at The Jefferson; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Punke remains as active, engaged, energetic and decisive as she ever was; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Punke always remains available to anyone needing a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, a sympathetic listener to anyone just wanting to talk, an inspiration to anyone who knows her life’s story; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Punke continues to live by her personal motto, which is: “If I have helped ease one ache or pain, I have not lived in vain,” and
WHEREAS, while Mrs. Punke has lived in Rhode Island and Florida, and visited many countries around the world, she has chosen the County of Arlington in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia to be her retirement home;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary Hughes Hynes, on behalf of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby offer commendation and best wishes to VERA PUNKE on the occasion of her 100th birthday, and wish her many more!
