WHEREAS, Arnauld Desplanques was the co-founder of the Reims-Arlington Sister City relationship and president of the Reims-Arlington Sister City Committee for the full ten years of its existence; and
WHEREAS, Arnauld Desplanques had a profound appreciation of the United States, both for its aid to France during and after the two World Wars, and for its shared values with his nation; and
WHEREAS, Arnauld Desplanques’ dedicated and visionary efforts expanded and nourished people-to-people relations between Reims and Arlington; and
WHEREAS, Arnauld Desplanques contributed significantly to our understanding of the facts surrounding the choice of the American Unknown Soldier of World War I (now buried in Arlington Cemetery); and
WHEREAS, the premature death of our friend Arnauld Desplanques is deeply regretted;
NOW, THEREFORE I, Jay Fisette, on behalf of the Arlington County Board, express our esteem and great appreciation for ARNAULD DESPLANQUES and urge all residents to celebrate our international friendships and associations and the richness they bring our County.
