WHEREAS, the Arlington Historical Society was established in 1956 to help preserve and promote the history of Arlington County; and
WHEREAS, the Society has operated the Arlington Historical Museum in the historic Hume School since 1962, open free of charge to the public; and
WHEREAS, the Arlington Historical Society owns and maintains the Ball-Sellers House, the oldest residential structure in the county, and opens it to the public free of charge; and
WHEREAS, the Society annually publishes the Arlington Historical Magazine, containing scholarly articles on local history; and
WHEREAS, the Society engages in outreach to Arlington’s schools, minorities, and neighborhoods to encourage awareness of local history; and
WHEREAS, the Society sponsors monthly lectures and other activities promoting Arlington history that benefit the entire community; and
WHEREAS, the Arlington Historical Society will hold its annual banquet on June 5, 2015, when members and friends will gather to celebrate the organization’s recent accomplishments and to look ahead to future opportunities to advance Arlington history;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary Hughes Hynes, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, do hereby RECOGNIZE THE MANY CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE ARLINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO OUR COMMUNITY and encourage all residents to join in celebrating these contributions in connection with the Society’s annual banquet on June 5, 2015.
