WHEREAS, Peru celebrates its National Day on July 28th in remembrance of the 195th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence; and
WHEREAS, in 1821 a declaration of independence from Spain was proclaimed by a Patriotic and Sovereign Junta; and
WHEREAS, there is an active Peruvian community living in the Washington metropolitan area with people representing all walks of life: professionals, employees, artists, homemakers and students; and
WHEREAS, as a community and as a government, we are proud of the cultural enrichment brought by Peruvian immigrants who have become an important part of the Arlington community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Libby Garvey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim July 28, 2016 as
PERUVIAN NATIONAL DAY 2016
in Arlington County and urge all citizens to celebrate the heritage of our Peruvian residents.
