WHEREAS, Bolivia celebrates its National Day on August 6th in remembrance of the 191st anniversary of its independence; and
WHEREAS, in 1825 a formal declaration of independence was proclaimed when General Sucre liberated the colony from Spanish rule and Simon Bolivar wrote the Constitution of the new republic which was named for him; and
WHEREAS, we have a large Bolivian community living in Arlington and in the Washington Metropolitan area representing all walks of life: business, professionals, employees, artists, students and homemakers; and
WHEREAS, we as a community, are proud of the cultural enrichment brought by Bolivian immigrants and the Committee Pro-Bolivia who have become an important and active part of our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Libby Garvey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim August 6, 2016 as
BOLIVIAN NATIONAL DAY
in Arlington County, and urge all citizens to support the County’s celebration of the heritage of our Bolivian residents.
