WHEREAS, the world community is concerned about global warming and the build-up of carbon dioxide; and
WHEREAS, conservation of our natural resources and beautification of the Arlington community are both very important to the quality of life enjoyed by residents; and
WHEREAS, trees enhance the beauty of Arlington, cool and refresh our air, serve as buffers against the noise of our busy lives, improve our environment and provide important educational experiences; and
WHEREAS, the planting of new trees will be expressions of our commitment to future generations; and
WHEREAS, students of the Arlington Public Schools system will show their commitment to the environment through ceremonies at their schools;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary Hynes, Chair of the Arlington County Board, do hereby proclaim Monday, April 20, 2015 as the celebration of ARBOR DAY in Arlington and urge all individuals, groups, businesses, and schools to celebrate and enjoy Arlington’s outdoors and the richness of our county through the planting and preservation of trees.
