WHEREAS, St. George’s Episcopal Church was founded in 1908 by a group of English domestic workers, who initially met in a private home to pray together; and
WHEREAS, St. George’s has existed as a faith community to participate in divine love in word and deed for more than a hundred years; and
WHEREAS, the St. George’s Food Pantry is acknowledged to be the oldest continuously running daily food pantry in Arlington, having begun twenty-five years ago, in 1974; and
WHEREAS, the St. George’s Food Pantry provides nutritious food at lunchtime five days a week to those in need, including soup, coffee, tea, and other food items; and
WHEREAS, the St. George’s Food Pantry is celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary in part with a holiday luncheon on November 20th, 2014;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jay Fisette, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby recognize and appreciate the many contributions of the St. George’s Food Pantry to our community.
