WHEREAS, the Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) provides comprehensive in-the-community care – psychiatric, nursing, therapeutic counseling, housing and case management (a hospital without walls) – to Arlingtonians who live with severe mental illness; and
WHEREAS, the PACT staff of 14 serves 87 individuals who experience the most serious mental illnesses and who are most at risk for hospitalization, involvement with the criminal justice system or becoming homeless; and
WHEREAS, PACT staff, like other first responders, travel throughout the County to support those they care for with intensive, wrap-around services, and in times of crisis are available 24/7 to keep clients and the community safe; and
WHEREAS, working in PACT is one of the most challenging jobs in our mental health system, helping individuals who are sometimes too ill to recognize their illness and are resistant to those who are working hardest to help them; and
WHEREAS, the PACT Advisory Council is celebrating and honoring the PACT staff with a luncheon on January 12;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary Hughes Hynes, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby recognize and appreciate the many contributions of the Arlington County PACT staff to our community.
